Attakkalari Center for Movement Art hosts a residency called FACETS International Choreography Residency every two years. The Foundation has supported a dancer/choreographer since 2012.
Attakkalari Center for Movements Arts is India’s premiere organization working in the field of contemporary movement arts. It was constituted in 1992 to facilitate the development of contemporary cultural expressions in India, particularly in the performing arts and is today recognized internationally as an important educational institution and cultural organization in the South Asia region.
The five week long residency is intended to provide a supportive system and an interdisciplinary approach to young and emerging choreographer to develop original work. The participants are mentored by an international faculty to develop strategies that will enable them to realize their ideas and projects in a creative environment, free of financial constraints. Through this initiative the residency hopes to expand the scope of these emerging choreographers into the professional arena in India and internationally.
During the residency, choreographers create/ develop original dance pieces, which are premiered at the Attakkalari India Biennial that follows FACETS.
