Amshu M S - 2015
Amshu was born in Bangalore and did his schooling in Hyderabad.
He obtained his Bachelor’s from the painting department and is currently
pursuing his final year of MVA in painting at the M.S University, Baroda.
He works mainly with videos along with paintings, installations and photography,
incorporating narrative structures of filmmaking.
Teja Gavankar - 2014
His major source of inspiration is cinema and the cinematic language.
In his working process he tries to incorporate the characteristics and implications
specifically related to the use of either film or video techniques.
Amshu’s work mostly deals with the sense of fragmentation, fragmented spaces and what constitutes them.
These fragments consist of people, memories, stories and incidents from both daily life and literary fictions.
With these as materials, he builds characters and contexts to reconstitute them in the narratives of his videos.
I have recently done my P. G. Diploma in Painting from Faculty of Fine Art, M.S.U. Baroda 2014 and
Diploma in Drawing and painting from L. S. Raheja School of Arts, Bandra in 2006. Also have completed
certificate course in Aesthetics from Kalina Unversity in 2011 and Dip.A. Ed. From J.J. School of arts in 2008.
Mainly interested in drawings and my urge is to make drawings in space too. I prefer to work with spaces and things around me.
I am interested in subverting mundane spaces, adding a new perception to them. My intention is to look at spaces as mental states.
Hence I prefer to make use of existing materials or situations rather than bringing new material into the place.
I have recently awarded as Inlaks International (India- Quebec) Residencies at the Darling Foundry, Montreal, Canada 2014
and ‘Nasreen Mohamedi’ award in MVA Disply, M.S.U. Baroda, 2014. Participated at ‘Khoj peers share’program, at Khoj, Delhi, 2014.
Currently working as a visiting lecturer at L.S.Raheja school of art (Fine art), Bandra and also worked at Rachana Sansad
school of art and craft, Mumbai as An
assistant Lecturer for 18 months.
