About the Foundation

The Foundation’s values are rooted in the original motivation of the founder.

We are committed to ensuring the integrity of our actions and motivation. We are neither partisan nor ideological. We believe in a fair, unbiased, merit-based selection that is blind to privilege, caste, sexuality, and gender. In short, we believe in equality of opportunity and that outstanding talent exists across all facets of society.

We are also aware that individual talent and potential may have been held back through a lack of opportunities or resources. Therefore, we do not define merit only by existing achievements but also by seeking to understand an individual’s trajectory, character, underlying intelligence and creativity.

We try to ensure that objectivity and empathy guide our selection process, continually strive to do what is right, and keep questioning ourselves.

The Foundation believes in the importance of being compassionate and tolerant of differences. This value is increasingly vital in the complex and rapidly changing world in which we live. We need to understand diversity of culture and thought, and be open to contrasting points of view.

We believe that by living up to these values, the Foundation will stay relevant and contribute to a deeper understanding between people.

The Foundation believes in supporting individuals rather than institutions because if we invest in the right people and foster their potential, we will change their lives and make the world a better place.

We believe in providing young people of exceptional talent, at a formative period in their lives, with educational and life-changing opportunities.

We aim to always be a family-inspired charity, staying connected with our Alumni as they progress through life, and not become a large, impersonal institution.

We give with no strings attached. There is no obligation to reimburse the Foundation financially or in kind. In particular, there is no insistence to return to work in India.

We believe that if we select people with their hearts in the right place, success in their chosen fields will benefit themselves and the wider world.

But naturally, the Foundation welcomes voluntary help from the Alumni with its activities.
