Grantees 2024-25: Aiswarya Sreenivasan and Ilina Ghose

We are delighted to welcome Aiswarya Sreenivasan and Ilina Ghose, the Inlaks-Attakkalari Dance Studentship Grantees for 2024-25.

Aiswarya Sreenivasan

Aiswarya Sreenivasan, from Kannur, Kerala, is a trained classical dancer, model, and content creator. Aiswarya finds her truest joy on stage performing and in front of the camera. With over a decade of training in Bharatanatyam, she successfully completed her Arangetram, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey. Dance has always been the constant in her life, providing her with a sense of purpose and fulfilment.

While academics often took precedence during her earlier years, her passion for dance remained unwavering, inspiring her to seek opportunities to refine her skills and deepen her understanding of the art form. Her long-standing interest in contemporary dance, which she has admired since childhood, motivated her to join the Diploma in Movement Arts and Pedagogy at Attakkalari. The program’s unique approach of integrating classical styles  with contemporary techniques aligns perfectly with her goal of becoming a versatile performer. Additionally, the course allows her to explore her aspirations of becoming an educator, equipping her with the tools to give back to the dance community by training and mentoring others.

Receiving the Inlaks-Attakkalari Dance Studentship has been a significant step in her journey, enabling her to pursue her dream of growing as both a performer and a educator . Aiswarya is excited to make the most of this opportunity, further honing her craft while building a strong foundation for her future in the world of dance.

Ilina Ghose

Ilina hails from the City of Joy, Kolkata in West Bengal. From a young age, she found herself drawn to both art and sports, but it was a transformative course by Shabari Rao that first introduced her to the expressive and liberating realm of contemporary dance. This experience ignited a passion in her that led her to explore the form further, taking her to the Flux School of Arts in Bangalore. Here, she was welcomed by a community of like-minded dancers and teachers, each offering fresh perspectives and new ways of moving.

Ilina is a graduate in Creative Arts from Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology. She is also trained in western classical music. She is a 3rd degree taekwondo black belt who has participated in national and international tournaments, winning many laurels for her state and country.

For Ilina, contemporary dance became more than just a form of art; it became a therapeutic outlet. It was a space where she could process emotions, release feelings, and find both freedom and discipline in motion. She discovered how powerful and healing dance could be, how it could nurture both the body and mind. Determined to hone her craft, Ilina sought a deeper education in contemporary dance. Her pursuit led her to the prestigious Diploma program in Movement Arts and Pedagogy at Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Bangalore. Through this opportunity, she envisions herself growing into a skilled, confident, and graceful dancer, performer, and facilitator.

Through this Diploma program, she aspires to inspire others through her practice, creating a nurturing environment for dancers of all ages. She is dedicated to helping students discover the joy of movement, encouraging them to make space for movement arts in their lives and embrace its transformative power for both physical and mental well-being.
